{"id":1038,"date":"2026-05-08T16:01:43","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T22:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rockriverhomeowners.org\/?p=1038"},"modified":"2026-05-08T16:02:01","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T22:02:01","slug":"mothers-day-weekend-update-5-8-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rockriverhomeowners.org\/index.php\/2026\/05\/08\/mothers-day-weekend-update-5-8-26\/","title":{"rendered":"Mother&#8217;s Day Weekend Update 5\/8\/26"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Current river temperature 57 degrees.<br><br>Current river level 7 feet at latham and continuing to fall daily.<br><br>Starting off with a little bit of a cool spring.<br><br>But it sure is nice seeing green trees, green grass and green hostas.<br><br>It&#8217;s also nice that the farm fields are drying out and farmers are working the soil.<br><br>We are getting a pretty good handle on cleaning up the debris mother nature deposited in our area.<br><br>There is a bad snag that is marked in front of martin park.<br><br>I don&#8217;t really want to attack it yet until more of it is showing, because the branch sticking up would probably just break off if I pull on it.<br><br>Latham bridge has a massive tree snag that will get addressed<br><br>In due time.<br><br>At the moment it&#8217;s doing less harm there than if we dislodged it, where it could do more damage to boat docks.<br><br>As boat traffic starts to frequent the river, the waves will dislodged debris from shore and boat docks, so always be on the lookout the next few weeks.<br><br>I&#8217;ve got a buddy that&#8217;s gonna come out with his new side&nbsp; Scan sonar and check for something that I hit just upstream of the harlem boat ramp in front of the bench.<br><br>It is underwater a few feet, So it&#8217;s hard to tell exactly where it is.<br><br>Probably 10 feet past the end of the dock and 40 feet north on the east side.<br><br>As always, the jefferson street pedestrian bridge, was completely blocked with debris.<br><br>The iron man competition is june 14 this year.<br><br>I attended my second captain&#8217;s meeting last night and things are looking very promising, but we always need more volunteers.<br><br>If you didn&#8217;t volunteer last year like the many that did, please think about doing it this year, it&#8217;s a great event for our community.<br><br>The river course, we&#8217;ll be the same as last year.<br><br>They are shuffling the transition area to a parking lot. Due to Davis park construction not being complete in time.<br><br>The only thing everybody said is, please mother nature don&#8217;t be 90 degrees again.<br><br>If you are blessed enough to still have your mother with you, please do something nice for her this weekend.<br><br>If you plan on going for a boat ride, just be observant of occasional debris, along with a still increased current, from what we are used to during normal low water conditions in the summer.<br><br>Be cautious and make it back to the dock safely.<br><br>I&#8217;ve enclosed a few of this week&#8217;s not so pleasant pictures of our once Tranquil river.<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Current river temperature 57 degrees.
