Iron Man swim update.:
Current river temperature, 71\u00b0.
The swim portion of iron man is complete.
Roughly eighteen hundred swimmers took on our river and are now on their bikes.
This years group of swimmers did a great job only a few had to be put on the swim sleds.
The event staff and the sheriff made the decision with the strong current present last night to close the gates on the dam
Temporarily this morning.
I can’t tell you what a world of difference it made for safety reasons to have less current in the swim course.
The gates were half open, and when I was pulling trees down and letting them go by the trip wire, the current was pulling me in last night.
The gates have been reopened and residents from sports core south, who are experiencing elevated river levels will see those drop back down here shortly.
This is not going to cause any flooding, and we will be back to where we were by this afternoon.
I can tell you this morning at 5 AM. When it was raining, I did not dress warm enough to run the course to check for any debris then may have got stuck overnight.
The debris has lessened considerably since yesterday.
If you are out today, you still may encounter an occasional 10 to 15 foot tree sporadically, floating down the river.
The bike portion is going on now for Iron Man, and then the run portion will be along the bike path and national avenue later on today if you want to go out and cheer them on.
