Current river level 4.5 at Latham.
The light rain we’ve been getting all week has not done a whole lot to change river level. But there is a slight uptick on the pecatonica river level.
These cool nights that we had early this week have led to a little smoke on the water in the mornings.
The algae Bloom on the river has gotten less noticeable, unless the wind’s blowing right in river Keys.
Temperatures are still relatively warm, so the blue herons are still in our area.
They’re slowly making progress on the stage at davis park, and it is a beautiful river view for a boat ride at night downtown.
Looks to be a rainy weekend, which i’m sure will cut down on boating on the river.
In anticipation, a proactive adjustment will be made at our dam today according to sheriff gary caruana.
More adjustments may be needed if water levels show a dramatic increase.
It is such a relief to have a sheriff who puts the good of our river community first.
I was informed that we have another pelican that cannot fly on the river in our area.
This pelican we have named sandy.
For the past three weeks or more, she has been camped out on a log at the tripwire upstream of the rockton dam.
I was in contact with a river resident who informed me that she makes daily trips upstream and into a backwater area to feed.
This rescue is a lot more tricky due to proximity to the spillway.
I’ve been laying the groundwork all week in anticipation of a rescue next week.
This required getting in contact with the rockton boat club to have access to the only boat ramp in that area next to the dam.
I also had jeff taber, go up with his drone.
He is able to herd sandy upstream.
Which is needed to keep her upstream of the tripwire.
In talking with the rockton dam operator he informed me that the tripwire stays in for at least another month.
Karen from Hoo Haven brought back the cage. And rescue net for us to use.
We will have to mobilize my john boat and two jet skis, along with my crew. To facilitate the rescue.
We will keep you updated and hopefully have another successful drone video rescue to share with you next week.
