Weekend Update 7/17/26

Current water temperature, 82°.

Current river level 4.6 at latham.

The lack of rain has us heading towards  drought level, which is 4 at Latham.

We have done our best to make sure the sandbars have danger buoys on them.

The homeowners association paid for signs that we placed in the sports core launch area.

On the peninsula side of the canal, there is a shallow ledge that extends out.

At this water level, the signs are in less than 2 feet of water to warn boaters to stay clear of that side.

Nessy, the rockness monster had some eye surgery this week to allow her to keep better tabs on pete, the resident pelican.

Judging by how far her tongue is sticking out there is definitely a love connection between the two.

Nessi also had eight color changing led lights installed, so we can spot her at night.

The resident rockadile north of riverside bridge, also got a new green coat this week.

While you and the family are out boating this weekend, I have a challenge for you all.

It’s a game of hide and seek that we are all familiar with.

Between the jefferson street bridge and the roscoe bridge, i’ve placed 6 butterflies on trees along the shore line.

The challenge is to see if you can find all 6 of them.

To keep things fair, please don’t divulge the location that you found them at.

Only respond to how many you have found.

Hopefully, the young ones and the young at heart will enjoy this game.

We have all seen the news about the boat accidents that have been occurring this summer across the country.

It is heartbreaking to see people lose their lives while out enjoying the waterway.

It is up to all river users to practice safe boating when you’re on the river.

Make sure your lights are working before being out after dark.

Have life jackets and a throwable device with a rope handy.

Make sure your fire extinguisher is charged and less than ten years old.

Make sure your horn works or you have a whistle.

Every year there are new boaters and jet ski Riders that are out for their first season.

It is up to every boat operator to pay attention, two other boats that may be in their path.

A little defensive driving can save an accident from occurring.

Together, let’s all make it back to the dock, safe and sound.

Let’s hope this fire smoke is gone for our weekend river enjoyment.
