Iron man weekend update:
Current river temperature, 72°.
Current river level is 6.5. At Latham.
Com Ed will be out this morning to make another adjustment to the dam. After last night’s flash flood, rain event.
The projection is we will stay below the no wake level of 8 feet at Latham.
I have spent the last several weeks, making sure the iron man course was free of any debris.
With this heavy rain event that we went through, there will be a lot of small debris coming out of overflowing creeks into the river.
There will be river restrictions sunday morning, south of auburn street.
From 6 AM till approximately 9 AM. The river is completely closed to boat traffic. During the swim event.
After the last swimmer is done, the river will go. No wake till 10 AM south of Auburn street. Till, all safety personnel have exited the course.
The weather seems to be cooperating with cool temperatures for the participants.
There are over 2000 Participants from 30 states and 19 countries in our city this weekend.
This event is a major economic boom for our region. For the second year.
I know there will be some headaches with road closures, but it is only for a short time and please abide by all road closure signs and police instructions.
Also, don’t forget property taxes. First payment is due today.
Looks like good weather tonight for city market.
Hopefully, good weather tomorrow night for the Ac/DC cover band playing at tad’s.
Below are some of the pictures of debris that I was able to move as part of my community service as an Iron Man, jet ski captain.
There is another website that is spreading misinformation that the county pays me to advise them on river conditions.
The only work that my company does for the county that gets paid for is the danger and no wake buoy Install maintenance and removal.
The Rock River homeowners association has also contributed money for specific cleanup Jobs like was done at pea island.
For decades, I have volunteered my time and equipment to make sure that our river is safe for everyone that uses it.
I will be out again on my jet ski tomorrow, making sure no new debris has entered the course and got stuck from auburn street south.
The sheriff’s department and d n r will have boats out sunday morning at six a m along with seven boats from the ski bronx.
There will also be over 80 kayaks. Along the course for participants to grab onto to get their bearings or request assistance.
I also have lined up ten jet skis, eight of which will have rescue sleds, and all will have lifeguards.
We are all looking forward to a safe and successful.Iron man, number 2 for our great city and region.
Like I mentioned, if you are boating this weekend. Be observant as to what is in front of your boats path because the flash flooding is going to put some debris in the river. Hopefully mostly small stuff.
Let’s all make it back to the dock, safe and sound. And pray for a safe Iron Man event.
