4th Of July Weekend Update 7/3/26

Current river temperature, 79°.
Current river level 5 at Latham.
We’re about a foot from drought level  without the upcoming rain.

The sandbar at auburn street, has buoys and flashing red lights installed.

The rock bar at Martin park.
Has a tree relocated on top of and red flashing lights on the tree..

The sandbar north of Latham, has 2 danger buoys along the west side to notify boaters.

Ski  broncs jump and docks all have flashing lights for night time navigation aid.

We are all hoping the rain holds out tomorrow for the 3 PM back to blue boat parade. Starting at Shorewood park and ending downtown at the state street bridge.

The fireworks display will start at 9:30 p m from the jefferson street bridge.

For those not wanting to venture downtown, the ski Bronx have a show and then Rockford Country Club has a spectacular fireworks display, starting around 9:30 also.

The concession stand at Shorewood park will be open early  and after the ski show.

I have had a conversation with the sheriff about a growing problem of jet skis ‘out past sunset.

Jet skis are not allowed on the water after sunset in illinois, even though some people think putting flashing lights on their jet ski makes them legal.
There’s a difference between being a little late to the boat ramp and being out too late.
Sheriff’s deputies will be issuing tickets to try and curb this problem. Before an accident occurs.

Also, if you have a pontoon boat, make sure you’re bimini light is tipped up, so it is visible from 360°.

Keeping our river safe is the responsibility of all of us river users.

Let’s all have a safe, fun 4th of July weekend on the Rock River.

The new rockness  monster is available for the communities viewing pleasure as of this week.

We needed a ladder to install the facial features on this one. As it is reaching to the heavens in honor of jim (pickle) anderson.
RIP pickle, we will keep your tradition you started in the eighties alive for all future generations to enjoy.

We are working on another couple of fun river Art projects that will be revealed in the next week or two.

If the rain holds out, the river will be a popular place this weekend and let’s all do our part to make it safe and enjoyable for all.

If you are pulling a skier or a tube, an orange flag must be displayed and are available for sale at my dock.

Enjoy the holiday weekend and let’s all make it back to the dock Safe and sound.
