With the cool nights our river Temperature is sitting at 71°.
Current river level is just under 6 at Latham.
This is 2 feet above drought level. so there is plenty of water for boating.
With the rains that we received earlier this week
Sheriff Gary Caruana did communicate with com ed for a slight gate adjustment.
We continued to see the dam run as it was designed within spec. And maintaining our recreational pool level for boating.
The pec and sugar rivers have not crested so we are receiving good flow into our basin.
This is a good thing because like clockwork on Thursday, Indian Ford closes their dam to backup water on lake koshkonong for the weekend.
Looks to be great weather this weekend for getting out and enjoying the river before Monday’s heat wave kicks in.
There was some decent sized trees that we’re dislodged this week. But for the most part debris has quieted down.
But as always, keep an eye on what is in front of your boat, as you travel up and down the river.
I have noticed an increase in new jet ski owners this spring in our area.
For many of them, it is their first time operating a watercraft on our river.
As fellow boaters, we need to keep a vigilant eye on them when operating, as they may not possess the skills to turn their head before turning their jet ski to avoid other boats.
It’s up to everyone who uses the river to make sure we have a safe
Boating season this year.
We are still searching for the perfect replacement rockness monster to carry on the four decade tradition on our river.
This tuesday night from 4 to 8 p m At the lombardi club, friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of jim (pickle)anderson.
We we’ll always remember the countless memories we have shared seeing his rock ness monsters over the years.
I became good friends with pickle in the mid eighties when I joined the ski Broncs
It was hard not to love pickle.
His smile and Great sense of humour touched everyone he came in contact with.
We spent many years together as comic relief sidekicks, for various ski bronc announcers.
We always kept them on their toes, because we never followed a script and just made up what we thought would get the crowd to chuckle.
I remember once when I was out of town and pickle filled in for me.
When it came to my barefoot start off the main dock, jim had his own idea for that act.
His plan was to jump off the dock when the rope came tight, and then let go.
Well, it didn’t turn out like he had planned by hanging on too long and the rope getting caught on his leg. Creating one hell of a rope burn.
I also remember one time during intermission, I talked jim into commandeering the twin engine ski boat to go out and entertain the crowd.
I guess I didn’t notice when jim had gone to the back of the boat to try and act like the motors weren’t running.
I did a boat stand that got the crowd going but I did get in a little trouble when we got back.
I still remember bob baxter’s exact words.
He said to me, YOU DAM NEAR TILLED PICKLE.
I don’t think it was that close. But it was just one of my many fond memories over the years with pickle and the ski team.
Pickle has joined the list of ski bronx, who are no longer with us, but we know they are up above watching us and rooting for us.
This Sunday morning there is another celebration of life for phil solomon’s, one of the founding members of the ski team.
It will be held at Shorewood park, which Phil was instrumental in developing the site many decades ago.
Once a ski bronc, always a ski bronc.
The bonds that the ski team members create last forever.
RIP gentlemen you are gone but never forgot.
That was a tough one to write.
Enjoy our beautiful river this weekend. And as always make it back to the dock, safe and sound.
