Weekend Update 8/14/26

Current river temperature, 74°.

Current river level 4.5 at Latham.

This is about 6 inches above drought level.

Ederton, shut off our water flow again on wednesday.

They’ve been doing that for over a decade. To put a few extra inches of water in lake koshkanog for the weekend.

The weatherman have been a little off with their rain predictions this past week.

The majority of the rainfall has been going south of us.

We really need it to hit the pecatonica and sugar river basins to give us some elevation in our river levels.

Still, good water south of bridge street for boating, though, if the weather permits this weekend.

815 festival is happening at davis park.

There is a band tonight followed by a fireworks show, weather permitting.

Saturday night there will be a spectacular drone show after sunset.

Let’s hope the rain holds out so we have a reason to hop in the boat and head downtown tonight.

The previous post, it showed that over 100 pelicans came to town to stop at auburn street rock bar and visit nessi the rock ness monster.

Our resident pelican pickle didn’t want to hang with the gang of adults.

The picture shows him with the

Light tan group of pelicans.

From what I understand it takes a few years for new pelicans to get their full white coat.

If you knew pickle, you knew that kids always loved him and wanted to be around him.

He was always able to make kids laugh. And i’m sure he did the same with the young pelicans when they stopped for a visit.

Our river is so full of life and visitors in the summertime.

Between blue herons and an occasional loon.

I’m sure i’m violating a rule, but I have been raising a mama and three baby ducks. This year

They come for breakfast at sun up and for dinner when the sun goes down.

Can you blame them? They’re living on a diet of  sunflower hearts and deshelled peanuts.

Progress is continuing at the stones landing park project.

The second set of pilings are going in for another permanent viewing area here that will stay in year round.

The river might be a little quieter this weekend with rain predicted. But we never know until we look at the local radar to see what is actually heading our way.

As always practice defensive driving, make sure your front and back light are in working order before you head out for an evening ride.

According to the calendar, we still have five weeks of summer left.

Let’s all make the most

Of this warm weather and warm water and get the family out on the boat to make memories.

And as always, let’s make it back to the dock, safe and sound.
