Weekend Update 7/12/25

Current River temperature 78°.

We were very fortunate that the river was low before we got the 5 to 7 inches of rain these past few days.

River levels are about 7 in higher in downtown Rockford and a little over a foot higher up in machesney Park.

The increased River heights makes the river a little safer not being so close to drought level.

With the increased height and flow there is some debris in the river sporadically.

A lot of The Creeks dumped small debris into the river.

There is some larger debris but not the big trees like occur during a flood.

The pecatonica and sugar Rivers did get rain in their basin  and that is what is causing our river to go up  a little now.

Water levels at the dam will be reevaluated Monday morning and if an adjustment is needed it will happen at that time.

I received a urgent call from one of my customers this morning that the heavy rain last night caused his boat to float off of his boat lift.

The tripwire at the dam did what it’s supposed to and caught the lower unit of the boat.

I was able to run down with my jet ski and hook up to the boat and pull it back to his house which he was very appreciative of.

As you can see by the puddles in numerous fields our ground is saturated now.

Sun and wind are our friend to try and dry things out before the next rain chances later this week.

Please be very observant if you’re out on the River today or tomorrow for any debris that you may encounter.

Have fun on the river and make it back to the dock safe and sound.
