Weekend Update 8/22/25

Current River temperature is 75°.

We were very fortunate that the rain that we got this past week did not cause our river to go into the no wake level.

We crested at 7.3 at Latham which translates to 240 million gallons of water per hour flowing down our drainage basin.

As of this morning River level is 6.3 at Latham.

Thank you Com Ed for making the necessary adjustments to our dam a few times this week.

All River gauges have crested and started going down.

There will be an adjustment to the dam again today to keep downtown from going dry over the weekend.

Two gates were opened up about 7 ft for the surge that came our way.

This causes the current in the river to increase dramatically as the water drains out.

With increased River height and current comes increased debris in the river.

Having a dock on the river is like Russian roulette.

Many of us discovered the large number of trees that have been floating down the river the past few days.

It is usually more of a nuisance than a damage creator as can occur when we get to flood stage and the current is so much stronger.

The picture above is what the dock at Atwood Park looked like yesterday.

As always if you are going to be out boating this weekend you need to be very observant for the occasional debris you may encounter in the river.

It is very sporadic and for the most part you won’t see much but still need to be diligent in scanning where your boat is going.

The river is still up enough you might encounter water over the walkways at sportscore.

A big shout out to chip gammel our board member and website i/t guy.

The national weather service changed parameters on how they send out their river gauge data.

Chip worked with them for many hours to get our River height page synced back in and running.

Thank you chip for getting this taken care of and back online for all of us who rely on it.

He have been blessed with a very nice summer of weather and water levels this year.

The days are getting shorter and fall is approaching.

The docks are still in at embassy suites until the construction starts.

While we don’t have a ton of places to go by boat on the river the ones that we do have would appreciate you bringing the friends and family out to support them.

Hope to see you all out enjoying our greatest asset this weekend.

Like I mentioned the river is pretty debris free for the most part so just be observant when out boating and make it back to the dock safe and sound.
