The weather has cooled off from last week and so has our river.
Current River temperature is 75°.
The ski Bronx will be hosting division 2 national water ski tournament starting tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. at Shorewood park.
Saturday is individuals competition and the river will be no wake in the show course.
For the majority of the day boats will be allowed to pass at no wake which means idle on the west side of the river which is the side the country club is on.
The jump competition is later in the day and the river will be closed to boat traffic during that event.
Between individuals boats will be allowed to pass no wake on the West Bank but expect some minor delays on saturday.
Sunday starting at 7:30 a.m. there are four ski shows that will take place one after another.
For skier safety the river will be closed during each team’s ski show.
This usually is for 1 hour. And between one team tearing down and the next team setting up boats will be allowed to pass on the West Bank.
Now before everybody gets all excited and turns into Karen’s this is for the safety of the boat drivers and the skiers.
There will be many people coming to town so there will be some economic impact for our region which we are thankful to the ski Bronx for.
The competitions on Sunday should be done around 2:00 and the river will be open back up to normal boat traffic.
There will be floating docks on the north and south end of the show course with signs letting boaters know where they have to stop to not be in the show course.
Thank you fellow boaters for your cooperation this weekend to make it safe for everyone.
Current River level at Latham is 5 ft which is 1 ft above drought level.
Edgerton’s damn operator continues to not have a clue on how to operate a dam properly.
You can see by the picture of the water fluctuation starting Wednesday at Edgerton which is measured at afton.
I have been in discussion with a board member over the past year about their careless operation during the summer months of the dam.
Unfortunately he resigned his board position like other board members have done because of the rkld board of directors lack of common sense in operating for the good of the Janesville Rock aqua Jays and the loves Park ski Bronx teams.
The aquajays and the ski Bronx both have stationary docks that have to fall into a set height during a tournament.
The division 1 national show ski tournament is next weekend in Janesville and you would think with teams coming from all over the country they wouldn’t be so concerned about adding an inch or two of water to lake koshkonong to the detriment of everyone downstream.
Hopefully the damn operator can practice a little restraint and not have to run out and open the dam then close the dam then open the dam for absolutely no reason besides he’s bored I guess.
More seasonable temperatures this weekend should make for more pleasant boating.
Please use extreme caution if you must be down by the ski Bronx area so that everyone can make it back to the dock safe and sound.
The best way to see the ski shows is to go to Shorewood Park where there is plenty of free parking and there is a beer tent and concessions
