Weekend Update 8/15/25

Current River temperature is 80°

Current River level at Latham is 5.6.

This means we’re about 19 in about drought levels so plenty of water in the river again.

Last week’s rain started making it this way down our River drainage basin the last few days.

With the increased water level came some increased debris in the river.

It’s easy to tell it was from a storm surge down various Creeks and drainage pipes due to the high volume of plastic bottles.

Sheriff Gary Caruana  had ComEd open one of our gates a little yesterday to help with the elevated water levels downtown.

Please be observant if you’re out boating for small debris you may encounter.

We seem to be having an issue with the national weather service data for our river gauge pages.

We will try and get this figured out as soon as we can.

In the meantime if you want to check River levels I just Google Rock River at Latham or Rock River at Fordham dam and Google will bring it up.

Received my second call this year for a boat on the tripwire of the dam.

This one was a little different in the fact it was on the upstream side of the Rock River towers dock when it started it’s downstream journey.

When being that close to the dam I always take my jet ski down to hook up to it.
Much safer and more maneuverable than taking one of my boats.

Beautiful night tonight with no rain to take the family and friends downtown for City market or one of our other fine River restaurants with boat docks.

Be safe and observant when you’re out boating this weekend and make it back to the dock safe and sound.
