Mother’s Day Weekend Update 5/8/26

Current river temperature 57 degrees.

Current river level 7 feet at latham and continuing to fall daily.

Starting off with a little bit of a cool spring.

But it sure is nice seeing green trees, green grass and green hostas.

It’s also nice that the farm fields are drying out and farmers are working the soil.

We are getting a pretty good handle on cleaning up the debris mother nature deposited in our area.

There is a bad snag that is marked in front of martin park.

I don’t really want to attack it yet until more of it is showing, because the branch sticking up would probably just break off if I pull on it.

Latham bridge has a massive tree snag that will get addressed

In due time.

At the moment it’s doing less harm there than if we dislodged it, where it could do more damage to boat docks.

As boat traffic starts to frequent the river, the waves will dislodged debris from shore and boat docks, so always be on the lookout the next few weeks.

I’ve got a buddy that’s gonna come out with his new side  Scan sonar and check for something that I hit just upstream of the harlem boat ramp in front of the bench.

It is underwater a few feet, So it’s hard to tell exactly where it is.

Probably 10 feet past the end of the dock and 40 feet north on the east side.

As always, the jefferson street pedestrian bridge, was completely blocked with debris.

The iron man competition is june 14 this year.

I attended my second captain’s meeting last night and things are looking very promising, but we always need more volunteers.

If you didn’t volunteer last year like the many that did, please think about doing it this year, it’s a great event for our community.

The river course, we’ll be the same as last year.

They are shuffling the transition area to a parking lot. Due to Davis park construction not being complete in time.

The only thing everybody said is, please mother nature don’t be 90 degrees again.

If you are blessed enough to still have your mother with you, please do something nice for her this weekend.

If you plan on going for a boat ride, just be observant of occasional debris, along with a still increased current, from what we are used to during normal low water conditions in the summer.

Be cautious and make it back to the dock safely.

I’ve enclosed a few of this week’s not so pleasant pictures of our once Tranquil river.
