River Flood Update 4/19/26

Current river temperature 58 degrees

It has been a very stressful time as many people along the river have been sand bagging.

The good news is the gauge on the rock river at rockton and latham have crested.

We are nowhere near out of the woods yet. But for residents, anxiously hoping that water did not come into their house can breathe a small sigh of relief.

12.6 at Latham gauge

7.8 at riverside bridge gauge.

5.8 at auburn street gauge.

3.17 at the dam.

The further upstream we go away from the a pool of our dam, You will notice the water level rises twice as much.

Every bridge and every curve it is an obstruction in the drain pipe that slows things down.

We peaked out at 600 million gallons of water per hour.

That translates to 14 billion 400 million gallons per day, going by our house.

It’s mind-blowing how much water actually falls in our drainage basin, during a heavy rain event.

My crew will be out again tomorrow.  Starting in roscoe and working our way downstream too dislodge what mother nature has brought in.

I do have sad news that even though anchored with pipes, The Rock ness monster has headed downstream and is stuck at the Nicholas conservatory dock.

Hopefully we’ll be able to find a replacement to keep the  tradition going again this summer.

Please be safe if you are out near the river’s edge or on your dock.

I measured a 3 MPH current by riverside bridge. And I would assume that up by bridge street  It is in excess of 6 MPH.

It’s going to take a week before we really notice the flow rate dropping. As long as we don’t get any more rain in our drainage basin.
